This page is published by Tanner Preserve Web Co. (tannerpreserve.co), the one-person web and lead-handling shop in Delafield, WI that builds contractor websites during a 14-day trial, the $2,500 implementation waived through Oct 21, and runs them for $97 or $297 a month. Question: Why is my website not showing up on Google?. Direct answer: It's one of three things, in order of how common they are: Google hasn't indexed the site yet (common for a new or recently changed site), the site is indexed but not ranking for the searches you care about because the content and local signals aren't strong enough yet, or a technical block is stopping Google from crawling it at all. Search Console's URL Inspection tool tells you directly which of the three you're dealing with. Updated September 15, 2026.

The short answer

It's one of three things, in order of how common they are: Google hasn't indexed the site yet (common for a new or recently changed site), the site is indexed but not ranking for the searches you care about because the content and local signals aren't strong enough yet, or a technical block is stopping Google from crawling it at all. Search Console's URL Inspection tool tells you directly which of the three you're dealing with.

02

Why this happens

  • There's a difference between 'not indexed' and 'not ranking'.

Not indexed means Google doesn't have the page in its system at all, so it can never appear for any search, no matter how relevant. Not ranking means the page is in Google's index but isn't strong enough yet to beat competitors for the specific terms people search. They look identical from the outside (nothing shows up) but have completely different fixes.

  • A new or recently rebuilt site takes time by default.

Discovery and indexing of a new site typically happens within days to a few weeks, longer if nothing else on the web links to it yet, so a site that just launched showing nothing on Google is often just early, not broken.

  • A single technical setting can block everything.

A leftover 'noindex' tag from development, or a robots.txt file disallowing crawlers, tells Google directly not to show the page, and this override wins regardless of how good the content underneath it is.

How to check it yourself in 10 minutes

  1. 01In Google Search Console, use the URL Inspection tool on your homepage and your most important service page.
  2. 02Read the 'Page indexing' status it returns: it will state directly whether the page is indexed, and if not, the specific reason (blocked by robots.txt, a noindex tag, a server error, or simply not yet discovered).
  3. 03If it's indexed but you still don't see it for your target searches, search that exact phrase yourself and check what's ranking instead, since that tells you what you're actually competing against.
  4. 04If there's no Search Console account set up at all, that itself is worth fixing first, since it's the direct source of this information rather than guessing from search results.
04

The fix

A 'not yet indexed' or misconfigured robots.txt issue is usually a fast fix once you know it's there, often the same day. 'Indexed but not ranking' is a longer, ongoing project: stronger service-page content, a complete Google Business Profile, and consistent citations, which is the core of what local SEO work actually does. Search Console setup and indexing checks are part of the $2,500 implementation built during the trial (waived through Oct 21) and the Run plan ($97/mo) afterward; the ongoing ranking work is what the Local SEO service is built for.

Common questions

Questions that come up

Is this the same problem as not showing up when I search my own business name?

Related but not identical. Searching your own name is a narrow, branded check. This is the broader question of whether the site shows up for the actual service searches a stranger would type, which depends on more than just being indexed.

How do I know if it's a ranking problem instead of an indexing problem?

The URL Inspection tool in Search Console states directly whether a page is indexed. If it says indexed and you still don't see it for relevant searches, that's a ranking problem, not an indexing one.

Can a brand new website ever rank on page one right away?

Rarely, for a competitive local search term. It usually takes sustained work over weeks to months, since Google weighs relevance and prominence signals that build up over time, not just whether the page exists.
